long short winter

The Longest Shortest Winter

A reflection of birth and death written by Christi Banks

The Longest Shortest Winter

held in birth

You held me in birth and watched me grow
I held you in death and while your soul found repose.

Your winter cut short by cancer’s wrath
The end of dolor has now brought you warmth.

Your daughter’s winter must remain ever long
While your pain has ended mine will go on.held in death

In winter it seems all appears to be dead
Merely hiding new life through the cold endured.

Someday my short winter will come
My children held in birth will hold me in death
Another longest shortest winter, another season made whole.

In loving memory of my mother Katherine Marie Welch, Spring 1962 – Winter 2017
